The A.T. runs right in front of Tom Lavardi's house in Dalton, MA, and he absolutely blew us away with his over-the-top generosity and hospitality. We walked into Dalton late afternoon on July 4th, and were greeted and offered a shower, laundry, a place to sleep, and dinner. Wow! The truely amazing part is that he not only opened his home to us, but to 13 thru-hikers in all that evening. It was a 4th of July picnic we will never forget. Thanks so much Tom. You are a legend.

How fun would it be to live there and be able to do what this man does for the hikers. Maybe you guys some day! As Madison is playing nearby and I am looking out the windows, I just wanted to let you know what I see. There are 7 bucks , 2 does and 2 fawns eating, drinking and playing in the backyard at the moment. One day recently, there were 7 fawns at one time! A squirrel is eating something from his little hands too. Madison says hi, as we enjoy the beauty around us too! love you, Susan
